Kumbh Mela
The Colossal Gathering

The Kumbh Mela comes to Nashik once every 12 years and each time brings with it a throng of humanity so staggeringly huge that one must see it to believe it. According to legend, this colossal festival came to be because of a struggle that ensued between the Devas and Asuras over nectar, some drops of which were spilt upon the four places where the Kumbh takes place. Believed to be over 2000 years old, The Kumbh Mela is more than just the grandest fair in the world. It is this giant melting pot of spiritual frenzy, of absolving sins, of ash-smeared ascetics and even mass feasts, where people swarm to from all over the globe to lose themselves in a bizarrely beautiful experience that can only be found in India.
